Driverless car technology also called the autonomous car, is one of the upcoming projects, which will make mankind sit back in and adore human mind in awe. Autonomous cars are taking technology advancement to all new level.

These cars can drive itself on the streets without requiring any human intervention. Equipped with multiple sensors, cameras and high end technology, autonomous cars are going to be a game changer in the automotive industry.

Recently 6 major firms are into testing of driverless vehicles and they should be available as soon as in 2020. Read about these 6 prototypes here:

1. Google

Google has started developing and experimenting their autonomous vehicle technology since 2009. The project began as part of Google X project.

In the year of 2014, Google announced its plan to build a fully autonomous car. The company released its prototype in Jan 2015. This technology can significantly increase road safety. Chris Urmson, head of Google’s self-driving car project, has disclosed that his team has been working on the project considering 2020 as the deadline.

2. Mercedes-Benz

In August 2013 Mercedes-Benz S 500 Intelligent was driven entirely in an autonomous fashion for up to 100 kms in Germany.

In the year 2014 it started officially testing the driverless car system in California.

It has an inbuilt feature where the four passengers can have a face-to-face interaction by rotating lounge chairs and the control sensors in the car maintain the balance between the internal passengers, vehicle and the outside environment.

3. Nissan

Nissan began its vehicle testing in the year 2013. The 2 different research centers of Nissan have been working to make this car development possible while the car is passing through different phases of production. One of the most striking features is the use of Zero-emission technology.

These vehicles will also be capable of communicating with each other and external factors like the traffic lights, which will provide safety to pedestrians and avoid the accident occurring every day due to human errors.

4. Bosch

It started the inventive work in this area of automated driving technology in the year 2013 at Autobahn in Germany.

Bosch has been working to develop the driverless car for approximately 3 years. It has been testing the automated and automated driving features on BMW series 3 cars in California as well as Michigan. There are a lot of positive effects like reduction of greenhouse gases emitted.

They are of the opinion that the fully automated version will be launched by them by 2025.

5. Audi

Audi started its revolutionary research in driverless car industry with Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency grand challenge in the year 2004. This was an appreciably important event owing to the attempt done by Audi where 15 automated vehicles had navigated a dessert track in California.

The concept car developed by Audi has the features like self-breaking, changes the speed, change of lane etc.

6. Apple’s Driverless Car

Apple has been trying to work on the driverless car project named Titan. Apple wants to establish itself in the car industry, but although it has all the manpower, investing in this project is a huge gamble. Recently it was reported that, Apple is building a self-driving car in Silicon Valley.

It aims to first introduce an electric car in the market followed by a fully automated car, which will be fully integrated with its existing operating systems to eventually move towards a driverless model. The iCar will be mostly launched by 2020.
